ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ, So, you read a little bit about Surah Mulk on the main homepage. Let’s continue to the second ayat, and we didn’t complete it, so let’s start again from the beginning of Surah Mulk, chapter 67, of this verse, so let’s continue it.
Tafseer of Surah Al-Mulk
Allah Almighty said in Al-Mulk, ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًۭا وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ and we explained that previously that Allah Almighty is the one who created death and life, to see who is doing the best deed? (وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ) and he is exalted in might and the most forgiving.
As I was telling you that Allah Almighty created death and life and the purpose, the hikmah, the wisdom behind making these two things from Allah Almighty is (لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًۭا), he will put you into a test so he will see who did his best in this life. did best of what?
Doing best from your deeds, we are here to do Amaal, as it says in Surah Al-Mulk, (أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًۭا) means to work to do your deeds to connect your deeds. So, what kind of deeds are you doing in this world: good deeds or bad deeds? Which path you are selecting, which path you are choosing, and going on because, in the end, Allah (SWT) says there is death and life for you to do your best.
What did you do? Are you just following the path of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in your life? Are you applying his sunnah, his sayings, his traditions, and his way of life in your life? Are you following the commandment of Allah Almighty, the creator, in your life?
Are you trying to apply this within your family, within your community, or within your society, or have you just collected the deeds of your own desire? I want to do this; I will do it. I want to drink this; I will drink it. I want to eat something that is not reprintable; you will eat it, or you will smoke something, or you will do something; you’re just following your desire; it doesn’t matter; whatever you are doing.
You’re collecting right, and as I said, after collecting, once we die and once we will be resurrected on the day of judgment, you have to pay for every single deed that you collected. I’ll give you an example: if you are in the supermarket, you have a big, massive supermarket, and you have a trolley in your hand—you know, in front of you—and you’re pushing that trolley.
It doesn’t matter now what you’re doing; you might put this product or that product, or the most expensive or the silliest product, or the good or the bad product, so whatever you want to do, you just keep dumping everything without thinking about your trolley.
What will happen if you go from one place to another place, from one lane to another lane, and you keep going? It’s a massive supermarket, and you’re having this trolley, and it doesn’t matter if you think that you know there’s my wish, my will. You keep putting your stuff into dumping your stuff in your trolley, and you will go to maybe from the first floor to the second, third, or fourth.
You’re going on and on and on. Hold on. Think that in the end, you have to pay for every single thing that you kept and put in your trolley. This is just a small example. Similarly, whatever you want to do, okay, say you’re free, okay, fine, no one is watching me. I’m 18 years old and above, and whatever these rules and regulations are that people are putting in place nowadays that 18, above 18, and below 18, and all these things, it doesn’t matter; it’s your wish what you want to do, but at the end, you have to pay for every single action that you did. If it was good, it’s good; if it was bad, it’s bad.
Allah Almighty said, and he finished and completed the verse by saying in Surah Al-Mulk (وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ). He is Al-Aziz, the exalted in might, Al-Khafur, the most forgiven, and every time there is also hikmah wisdom behind all these names that Allah Almighty describes himself with the names and the attribute of Allah (SWT).
You will find in many places in the Quran that he ends the verse with some names like Al-Khafur, Ar-Raheem, Al-Rahman, Al-Karim, and all these names, for example, right? So what is the wisdom behind using these names?
Specifically in this Ayah in this verse, Allah Almighty says in Surah e Mulk (وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ) and he is the Exalted in Might, which means that if anyone does good or bad, if anyone is doing bad, he is exalted and mighty; he does not care; he will put those who disobeyed him, who disbelieved in him, he will put them into the punishment, and he will put them into the hellfire.
It doesn’t matter, but those who repented—people who repented from this category or those who did good deeds of Allah Almighty—will threaten them with his other name, Al-Khafur, the most forgiving. That’s why Allah Almighty, or this is the reason, and this is the hikmah, the wisdom that Allah Almighty used these two names specifically in this Ayah.
Not only that, but Allah Almighty then continued with the third verse of verse number three. So, what he says,
Which means, who created seven heavens in layers you do not see in the creation of the most merciful? Any inconsistency, so return your vision to the sky, and you will, or do you see any breaks or any cracks? This is the translation of the Ayah, but
Let’s go again word by word and try to feel and ponder upon each and every word Allah Almighty is again saying about himself, the one. What about him? خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢ طِبَاقًۭا He is the one who created seven skies in layers. Imagine the one who is creating seven skies, one after another, this huge creation of Allah Almighty that is there without any pillars. It is there without any things to hold them. Allah Almighty just created them one after another, so Allah Almighty is saying that, خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢ طِبَاقًۭا the one who created these seven skies, layers after layers.
Imagine these layers What the prophet Muhammad ﷺ said about these layers is that the distance from one sky to another is the distance from one sky to another sky, as it says in the authentic narration that Masira is the distance from one sky to another sky. messier, it’s a journey, it’s a speed, or it’s a destination of 500 years, and from the second till the third, it’s 500 years; from the third till the fourth, 500 years; from the fourth to the fifth, 500 years; from the fifth till the sixth, 500 years; from the sixth sky till the seventh sky, 500 years. Allahu Akbar.
Imagine all these numbers. Can you imagine? And after that, what is there (the throne of Allah Almighty), the most merciful? Above that, so we are just describing the سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢ and we cannot even comprehend and understand the majesty of Allah Almighty; this lord should be or deserve to be worshipped.
